How could I resist?

I was looking down the Valentine isle at Walmart and came across these Valentine conversation hearts. How could I not get them! And I of course had to get all 3! The candy is actually very good, and I was even surprised to find that the white ones do shine just a bit...like diamonds. He he he. I'm giddy like a school girl.
I have to admit that in pictures Jacob is looking mighty-fine...but Edward will always have a special place in my heart (how do I say that without sounding like an obsessed 17 year old?).

February Meals

I do our grocery shopping at the end of the month when my husband gets paid, since he is a teacher and only gets paid once a month. I started (back in August 2009) putting together meal plans so I knew we would have enough food and actual meals to get us through the month. This also helps us not repeat meals often, and has helped me get a little more acquainted with the art of cooking. It takes about a full day of planning, researching and making the list...and about 5 hours shopping and stocking up the house. But it's worth it and it's only 1 day a month. Below is our dinner meal plan, and a few link to some recipes.
{The fridge after the shopping trip packed full. It's times like this that I wish I had room for another small freezer.}

February 2010:
1: Steak and Salad
2: Chicken with Broccoli & Asparagus
3: Salmon, Shrimp & Zucchini
(for the first 3 days I'm doing a special diet prep that consists of A LOT of protein and green veggies)
(we get several of these a month. My husband is a basketball coach and on days he has home games that we can go to I don't have time to cook a big meal.)
5: Beef and Broccoli w/Brown Rice
6: Eggplant Parm w/ Green Beans & Garlic Bread
7: Superbowl - party food
8: Dijon Almond Chicken w/ Sweet Potatoes and Israeli Cauliflower
9: Chicken Cesear Salad
10: Vegetarian Ratatouille
12: Bunco party night - I am hosting. We are having dip, veggies, fruit, punch and brownies
13: Tortilla Soup
14: Pork chops with Mushrooms w/ Corn & Potatoes
15: Spaghetti w/ cheesy garlic bread
16: Hamburgers w/ homemade steak fries
17: Beet & Goat Cheese Salad w/ Artichoke
19: Baked Pecan Salmon w/ Spinach & Brown Rice
20: Teryaki Chicken Burger w/ Baked Beans & Pineapple
21: Chicken w/ Creamy Cucumber sauce & Rice
22: Pizza
23: Leftovers (this week is basketball regionals, don't think we will be home much)
24: Wanchi Ferry Chinese Meal
26: Chicken Quesadillas
27: Cheese Ravioli w/ Shrimp, Red Peppers & Alfredo sauce
28: Shopping for next month!

My deal of the day was at Albertson's, who was having a sale on Petite Sirloin Steaks. It was $6.99/lb and buy 1 get 2 FREE. However the add didn't tell you the package was HUGE! Each package consisted of 4 to 5 steaks. I got 14 nice steaks for $17! AMAZING!

Bridal Shower Invite

I recently did a bridal shower invite for someone and I love how it turned out. Know anyone getting married? I do custom designs, or they can purchase one already done.
This is how it was packaged. All wrapped up in white paper and an orange ribbon.

Good to know

In the past, when I have wanted to share a link I had to post the whole, very LONG, link instead of doing a hyperlink just to one word. I never knew how and couldn't find it on Blogger. But Funky Junk Interiors is helping those like me that need to improve their blog. So now I can tell you to go check out her link here to see how you can do a hyperlink as well. It's sooooooooooooo much easier than I thought it was, and the answer was in front of my face the whole time. Enjoy!

Valentine's Wreath

I have seen sooooooooo many gorgeous Valentine's wreaths out in blogland and I am dying to do a wreath. I have a list of projects I want to do for Valentine's but just have not had the time yet. I have had the pleasure of having several clients for my graphic design business, Bailey Doehler Designs http://baileydoehler.blogspot.com/, and I just got a new job yesterday and start Monday! So needless to say, I have not found craft time the last few weeks. However, I plan to do a lot this weekend so that on February 1st my house is full of love and I can enjoy it for at least 14 days!

There have been a lot of wreaths out there with this concept, but I love the fabric that Maggie over at Generally Creative chose. It's so full and pretty! I think I might do mine in red so I can leave it up all the time (my living room has a lot of red in it) and it would be good for a lot more holidays. I do have a few pink Valentine specific crafts up my sleeve though. Who can live without pink?!

January 15, 2010

The other day I was on the computer and I could hear Emma in her room playing and singing, and I thought how nice it was that she is getting into that stage where she can play by herself and use her imagination. Then she came out of her room and shut the door. When I got up to see what she was doing, she yelled at me not to go in her room because the babies were sleeping. And when I opened the door this is what I found. She laid out all the blankets, put all three babies in there and gave them water. Then she decided to cuddle with them too. So cute!

...I cleaned out my entry closet!!!!!!!!!!!! I opened this up the other day and realized that over the holidays it had become a catch all for everything I didn't have a place for in the living room. This is the closet that is next to the front door. It doesn't get much use as an actual coat closet, because we always come in through the garage door. But heaven forbid, if we had guest and they tried to use it, I would be really embarrassed. It also is a place for all our guest sheets and blankets. We don't have a guest bedroom so when my family comes to stay they get the futon and couches (which are actually quite comfortable). So they were all thrown in there as well.

How the heck did all this fit in there!?
Thanks to a two $1 baskets from the Dollar Tree and a three-drawer plastic dresser I got on Craigslist for $5, it's nice and organized.
And while I was at it, and had all my cleaning supplies out by the front door, I added our address numbers to the front door. So cute!
This is how I spent my Thursday night waiting for Grey's Anatomy to start!

How sweet is Valentine's Day...

How Does She has put together some of bloglands sweet treats for Valentines Day. Check out her blog to see all the delicious things to make your loved ones.

I will be hosting a Bunco night the Friday before Valentine's and I will use any excuse to do crafts and decorate. As long as I can bake a good cookie (I can cook, but not so great at the baking) then I think I will be doing this for favors. Lord knows I have a million of these white CD sleeves lying around. The above image is from Norththreads. Check out her blog here for all her great ideas: http://norththreads.blogspot.com/2007_01_01_archive.html

McMommy time

I am in love with Grey's Anatomy. Seriously.

I have been watching this show since the very first season. I was a senior in college and that is the year I lived by myself, and my now husband had already graduated and was over 3 hours aways, and this show got me through some lonely nights (get your head out of the gutter). ;)

Now, even though I am busy and have a two year old running around and rarely get some ME time, I make it a point to give myself one hour of my TV time (two hours tonight with the Crossover event). I like other shows on TV, but this is the ONLY one I HAVE to watch on its night. I know others might think I'm crazy, but for those who love this show too, you completely get it.

I will always have a place for McDreamy, it's his smiling eyes, but McSteamy is exactly that! Steamy. One you marry, the other you........ I still miss Denny, and George. But overall Grey's is and always will be the best show on TV. Now, I have 2 hours to kill until the show begins.

Reusable Produce Bags

Go to Smashed Peas and Carrots to find a tutorial on how to make these reusable produce bags. I don't know about you, but I will be making these next week when I visit my mom (she's the one with the sewing machine). GO GREEN!

Cupcake Valentine Wreath

I have never decorated for Valentine's before, but this year I seem to be in the mood. I didn't think I would be as after Christmas was over I was glad to have my house back to normal after 3 months of 3 different holiday decorations. But now that it's been a few weeks since Christmas has come down, and I am finding sooooo many wonderful Valentine decorations, I am having second thoughts. Especially since I joined a Bunco group and it will be my turn to host on Valentine's weekend. Soooo...I'm thinking that I need at least a wreath or two, and maybe a banner, and maybe an apothecary jar filled with Valentine goodies. And then of course lots of Valentine themed snacks for the group.

While looking around blogland to get some inspiration I came across Tatertots and Jello, who made this wreath using cupcake liners. It looks a lot like carnations to me, and I love it. Check out her site for the full tutorial: http://tatertotsandjello.blogspot.com/2010/01/whimsical-valentine-wreath.html

A Wonderful Sewing Blog

Came across the blog MADE and it is so amazing. I found myself lost in her designs for hours today. She has such cute kid clothes that I wish my own daughter had it all to wear. I can't sew, but my mom can so I guess she'll have to teach me....or I'll just have her do it all for me.

Check out MADE...amazing!

Mini Stamp

Found this cute mini stamp made from corks at Lil Blue Boo. She has a great tutorial on how to make this. I think this would be a great idea for heart stamps to use for some neat Valentines.

Craigslist find

I saw this on my cities Craigslist and thought it was really interesting. I think it could be a beautiful piece of furniture in the right room. However, the lady was asking $100. Yikes...at least I think it's a Yikes. I would have bought it in a hurry for a lot less, but I just can't afford that price for something I would be redoing anyways.

Starburst Mirror

I LOVE starburst mirrors! And this blog has a very easy tutorial how to make your own. I think I might do this next week for my downstairs bathroom. I love the color I painted my bathroom, but want to give it an accessories makeover. Check out One Project at a Time for her tutorial:

Giveaway at Chocolate Sundaes

There is a giveaway at Chocolate Sundaes for your choice of four handmade flowers. Would make a pretty hair clip or on a headband.

Check it out

I did not post to this, but I am finding some GREAT ideas here. I found the below Star Tutorial there and much much more. Check it out.

I love these kind of stars and Shoestring Pavilion has a great tutorial on how to make them out of paper! Great for Christmas next year, or make them simple and keep up all year long.

This week I am out of the house dog/house sitting for a friend. So I am having a lot of time catching up on looking at all the amazing blogs out there. I have several new ones that I am following. When I get home on Monday night I hope to start making some small projects for my home. My wheels have been turning and I am getting antsy after looking at everyone else doing projects.

Felt Pillow Idea

I know these pillows have been out in blog land before, but as everyone is posting their 2009 post reviews I am once again getting inspiration and don't want to forget where I found certain ideas when I go to find them later. This is one of those great ideas I know I'll have use for in the future. Check out Simple Sage Designs to see her great work:

I really like this wall art and it looks pretty easy to make. Check out the tutorial here:

Fake Make-up

{Great idea for a Valentine's Day gift}

My daughter has been getting into my make-up a lot lately, so I decided that she needed her own. I found a tutorial earlier this year that showed how to make your own fake make-up that was not messy. This was in Emma's stocking and she loves it! Now she has her own to play with.

Project cost: $2
Made with nail polish I already had, and 2 make up containers from the Dollar Tree.
Tip: Give enough time for drying. This is a quick craft to make, but not quick to dry. It does take almost a week for the nail polish fumes to disappear. It was dry within a few days, but I could still smell the fumes for almost a week.

Check out my earlier post on how to make this:
